Fire sinks boat off Jersey Shore’s Osborn Island

LITTLE EGG HARBOR - Three people and a dog were rescued Tuesday from a 30-foot Grady-White boat after the vessel caught fire off Graveling Point in the Great Bay, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The blaze was reported to Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia at 11:22 a.m. as a good Samaritan rescued the occupants from the distressed pleasure boat, said Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan Noel, a Coast Guard spokesman. Sink Strainer Basket

There were no reported injuries, Noel said.

First responders from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City reached the scene at 12:05 p.m. while the rescued individuals had been taken to Great Bay Marina on Osborn Island, he explained.

At that point, the vessel had become fully engulfed in flames and later sank. A salvage crew from Sea Tow has been retained to recover the wreck, Noel said.

No pollution was released into the water during the incident, he said.

The New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire, he added.
